BAE recruits Summer interns

August 12, 2013

Students hold a banner which reads 'get a career in killing with BAE systems'With less students choosing a career in the arms trade due to ethical concerns, BAE Systems have started paying graduates for their Summer Internship program. They brag that students will ‘use [their] skills to make a real contribution’ but fail to mention what interns will be contributing to – the death of thousands of people and bolstering of human rights abusing governments.

BAE targets students with valuable skills but this is not an argument for continuing to throw public money at the company, rather one for funding areas that will make a beneficial use of these skills. The money should be spent on projects that genuinely benefit the security and economy of the country, with the most obvious candidate being renewable energy technologies.
