Students and local residents protest at the UAV Tactical Systems company based in Leicester. It builds the Watchkeeper and is in part set up by the Israeli company Elbit Systems. Elbit specializes in the manufacturing of electronic defence devices for the Israeli Army.

Lancaster University students recently protested a BAE Conference held on their campus. Despite the secrecy surrounding the event, (the students only found out about it by chance), they were able to show BAE that they are not welcome on Lancaster campus. Students at Manchester University sent arms company BAE packing after a protest at a BAE workshop. Students informed others about BAE before holding a ‘die-in’ outside the event room. Students campaigning against York University’s undertaking of  research funded by arms companies, yesterday protested on York campus. The lively protest, involving a talk from the local MP, protest poetry and drumming, called for the adoption of an ethical funding policy, to build on the ethical investment policy already held by York. Students set out to counter the slick image presented by BAE at their careers stall, by providing information on the company’s activities. The importance of this was demonstrated by the numbers of students who were unaware of what BAE actually does. Read original article.
